Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in television, film and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer in the Showtime program Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent from childhood. An Maryland high-school contest awarded her the top actress prize. Her acting diploma was earned at New York University after working at 'The Washington Ballet Company', as well as on stage. Contractor, who was born in Mumbai and lived in Nigeria over seven years, experienced a variety of cultural experiences and travels at the age of. She attended boarding school between the ages of 7 to 9 in London. After that her family relocated home to Toronto (Canada) which is where they spent her entire childhood. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. She also excelled academically. She attended an Etobicoke School of the Arts an specialized arts public high school in which she not only danced but studied theater as well. When she was 16, after nearly 10 years of dance Contractor decided to pursue acting seriously. As she finished high school with a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual diploma in sociology and psychology. Contractor was a student who'd completed her university degree, went on to audition during an open call for Pericles in the world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canada] and won the part. Her work was highly acclaimed for the 92 shows that she performed in. She was awarded an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian Critics. She was invited to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course which allows just four men and eight females can attend the 20-week crash training in classical theater. Her place in the upcoming play season was secured and she was chosen in the play as Hermia.
